Celebrities Who Love Their Dogs
There are celebrities who love dogs and then there are those who LOVE dogs and couldn’t imagine life — or their families — without them.
These 12 celebs take the cake in being obsessed with their furry pooches.
The former Disney star-turned-controversial-pop-singer isn’t shy about anything — including her obsession with her many, many dogs.
Just a quick scroll through her Instagram will reveal a house packed full of dogs, cats and other animals.
The animal lover and her fiancé Liam Hemsworth currently are the proud owners of at least seven dogs — Emu, Mary Jane, Tawny, Dora, Little Dog, Bean and Happy — and often post snapshots cuddling them in bed, showing off their costumes and even showering with them.
The funny daytime host is a huge advocate of rescuing dogs (and animals in general) and often brings up her love of man’s best friend in interviews and on her show.
DeGeneres and wife Portia de Rossi have three rescue dogs themselves — Auggie, Wolf and Kid — not that she isn’t open to more. DeGeneres once told Modern Dog Magazine, “If I could, I would have 15 cats and 20 dogs.”
In fact, she loves dogs so much she recently launched a new pet line at PetSmart and is a partial investor in premium dog food line, Halo.
Country superstar Carrie Underwood doesn’t just have a voice of gold, but a heart of gold as well when it comes to dogs.
The singer is often seen volunteering at local dog shelters and is the proud mom to a rat terrier named Ace and Penny, a dachshund mix.
Underwood often posts pictures cuddling her fur babies on social media with captions like “What would I do without them?”
Former Vampire Diaries star Ian Somerhalder has always been a passionate animal activist. He and wife Nikki Reed have a full house packed with four dogs — Enzo, Ira, Nietzsche and Gerty —three cats and two horses.
Fans can often find him on social media posting facts about dogs and dog adoptions. He even won the “Dog’s Best Friend” award at the World Dog Awards.
When introducing him for the award, actress Holly Robinson Peete joked that Somerhalder was “behind more adoptions than Angelina Jolie.”
In 2010 he launched the Ian Somerhalder Foundation which “works to empower, educate and collaborate with people and projects to positively impact the planet and its creatures.”
She’s an obsessed dog parent and proud of it. One only needs to follow Chrissy Teigen on Instagram to know she has a deep and abiding love for her dogs — Puddy, a bulldog, Pippa the Frenchie, Penny, a three-legged Frenchie and Pepper, a bulldog pup.
The canines are often photographed being loved on by Teigen and her husband John Legend (sometimes even joining in on their date nights.)
Sadly, Puddy passed away in March 2018. She wrote in a moving farewell post to Puddy, “It’s true what they say. We are their entire lives and it is the greatest shame they can only bless us with a short spark of time in ours.”
Not only is actress Katherine Heigl a dedicated animal rescue advocate, she’s also the mom to eight dogs and counting. That’s right, EIGHT.
The former Grey’s Anatomy star started the Jason Debel Heigl Foundation which is dedicated to helping animals and includes a special program called Heigl Hounds of Hope which take in dogs that need special medical or training help and rehabilitates them until they are ready for adoption.
She tells Dogster, “They enrich our home with their unconditional love and loyalty. They bring laughter and fun with their individuality and special personalities. They help teach my children about caring for others, and help me to always remember the important things in life and that all life is a gift that we need to value.”
Actress Kristen Bell has often described her many pets as part of the family. She told People, “I have treated all my dogs like my kids … To me, they’re just kids I didn’t birth.”
Bell and husband Dax Shepard have one rescued fur baby, Lola, who they often call their “daughter,” and are fostering another rescue dog named Muppet, along with a handful of other random furry creatures that seem to just appear in their yard from time to time.
Bell is also an outspoken animal advocate who often reminds fans to #adoptnotshop.
It should come as no surprise to most that Queen O herself is a huge dog lover.
She refers to her five furry companions — golden retrievers Luke and Layla, cocker spaniel Sadie and springer spaniels Sunny and Lauren—as her “fur children.”
She shares on her website, “For me, a home without dogs would be like a library without books … They are my definition of unconditional love. They're family!”
And lest you think a celeb as big as Oprah would have someone else do all the hard parts that come with owning so many dogs, you’d be wrong. Oprah often shares how she potty trained all five of her dogs herself, walks them and does everything else a mom would do for their kids.
Mariah Carey doesn’t go small on anything and that includes pampering her eight precious pooches — The Good Revered Pow Jackson, Mutley P. Gore Jackson the Third, Jill E. Beans, Pipitty Jackson, Cha Cha, Jackie Lambchops, J.J. and Squeak E. Beans.
According to InTouch, Carey loves her fur babies so much she once spend almost $200,000 to send them on vacation to a luxury dog hotel in England named Paw Seasons.
We’re guessing they didn’t fly there coach either. Carey also reportedly spends $50,000 a year grooming them.
Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne may have their issues, but loving dogs isn’t one of them. Parents to six fur babies named Bella, Rocky, Alfie, Charlie, Flick and Moe, the rock n’ roll family makes sure their pets aren’t treated like ordinary dogs.
Apparently Pomeranians Bella and Rocky travel everywhere — first class, of course — with their mom and Ozzy is reportedly opening a dog care center for up to 30 dogs on his massive England estate.
As the owner of seven dogs, four cats, five horses and two mini-horses, the country singer has always been a huge dog lover and having more resources has just amplified her passion.
Lambert launched the MuttNation Foundation — which helps find homes for homeless pets — in 2014 and regularly hosts pet adoption drives.
As for which pooch is her favorite? This dog mom doesn’t play favorites. She shared with Modern Dog Magazine, “Every animal has a special place in my heart. Especially my dogs — some of them go everywhere with me. They are like my kids, with their own unique personalities … They don’t know ‘Miranda Lambert’ they know ‘mom.’”
Socialite Paris Hilton has always been famous for her obsession with dogs. From tiny teacup pups she’d carry everywhere to her beloved Chihuahua Tinker Bell, at last count Hilton had 10 dogs, but that could’ve easily increased by now.
And in true Hilton fashion, her pets even have their own Instagram account, @hiltonpets, chronicling their fabulous lifestyle. Her pampered pooches even live in a not-so-little air-conditioned dog mansion in her backyard which reportedly cost $260,000.
