The Best Examples of Kids Misunderstanding Age
The concept of aging is a difficult one to grasp. Even when you start to understand, it can still feel confusing because you don’t always feel your age. And aging is especially confusing to children. They (understandably) don’t have any concept of time or how it passes, so their grasp of how old things actually are versus how old they seem can turn out to be pretty charming — or straight-up hilarious.
Luckily for all of us, some good-humored adults have captured some of the best moments when children shared their understanding (or misunderstanding) of age. Get ready to laugh...
A Colorful Mind
If a young kid has ever seen a black and white picture, it’s fair enough to think that maybe the whole world was black and white.
But it would still make you feel absolutely ancient if your kid thought you spent much of your life not seeing colors.
Old Technology, Old Mom
It’s most impressive that this kid knows what a victrola is, yet still has no idea that her mom is too young to have ever used one.
Born Last Century
To be fair, anyone born in the 1900s was born in a century that began where most people didn’t own a car, there had been no world wars, and people had yet to conquer flying.
Just because we didn’t have computers in the palm of our hands doesn’t mean we were all typing on typewriters in school, kid!
The Missing Lincoln
Surely, you remember his presidency like it was a mere four scores and seven years ago, right?
The War of Younger Aggression
It can be hard for kids to understand how long ago something happened in the past. But that doesn’t take away the sting of a kid thinking you were alive in the 1860s.
I’ve Been Insulted, and I Can’t Get Up
For little kids, anyone unable to run around all day every day without exhausting themselves is already elderly.
Youngest Grandma Ever
Anyone who is older and not a parent must be a grandparent, right?
I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream for Eye Cream
Sadly, no amount of eye cream will keep a kid from assuming anyone old must be at least 90.
Even though cars have been around for well over a century, it’s totally reasonable your ancient parents may remember a time before they existed.
For some adults, children asking questions about their age is basically karma for the questions they asked their parents when they were kids.
Born Before Comfort
Life must have been much simpler and way harder back in the day. You know, before any form of human comfort existed.
I’ll Never Let Go (of This Comment)
At least they think you’re tough enough to have survived the disaster. That’s comforting, right?
Age Can Go the Other Way
Sometimes, kids don’t understand how much older you are than them, which is almost as confusing as when they think you’re ancient.
Kid at Heart
To be fair, if you’re acting like a kid, another kid may only see your inner child and not your outer adult.
33 Is the New 99
You may have thought you were in the prime of your life in your early 30s, but one interaction with a little kid can remind you just how incredibly old you may or may not be getting.
